SME EXPORTERS INVITED TO CHILE TO PROMOTE TRADE
Pakistani Ambassador to the Republic of Chile Burhanul Islam has invited the small and medium sized exporters to visit this Latin American State to promote exports of their goods which is a promising market for value added agricultural produce.He promised to introduce SMEs to importers and recommend them to the merchants of the republic.
The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) held a meeting with the Pakistani Ambassador to Chile at UNISAME house and discussed the export of rice, commodities, foodstuffs, recipe items, textiles, sports goods, surgical goods, light engineering goods and general merchandise.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver welcomed the ambassador and apprised him of the role of SMEs in value addition in agro based industries and informed him that the SMEs are contributing 40 percent to exports and 35 percent to GDP. He said the SMEs are employing 80 percent of labour in urban and rural areas.
He said the SMEs comprise of 96 percent of the enterprises and there are 3.2 million SMEs in Pakistan who are self employed.
He informed the ambassador that the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) is doing its best for the promotion and development of the sector and requested the ambassador to co-ordinate with SMEDA for the transfer of technology from Chile to Pakistan in products of advanced technology made in Chile.
Faud Garib leading rice exporter urged the ambassador to arrange for warehousing facilities at Santiago for storing goods and enabling SMEs to distribute their goods to neighbouring countries comfortably. He said warehousing facilities would promote business manifolds.
